Probiotics get all the attention: the live bacteria, the big CFU number on the tub. But a probiotic with nothing to eat is like turning a new horse out on a dirt paddock. That’s why every ImmuBiome formula with probiotics carries prebiotics in the same tub. If you want the background on how probiotics work in the horse gut, our article on probiotics for horses covers it.

Key points

  • Nine of our formulas carry the same eight named strains, at 3 billion CFU.
  • Every one of them pairs those probiotics with prebiotics, so the microbes have something to feed on.
  • G-Tract and Immune add live Saccharomyces yeast on top.
  • Hay and pasture are still the biggest prebiotic in your horse's diet by far.

How we build a probiotic formula

  • Named strains. Different strains favor different spots along the gut, so we use a mix of eight.
  • A CFU count on every label. 3 billion CFU, printed on the tub.
  • Live yeast where it counts. G-Tract and Immune add Saccharomyces yeasts, among the most studied probiotics in horses.
  • Prebiotics in the same tub. New arrivals do better with food waiting for them.
  • A well-sealed tub. Live cultures don’t like heat or damp.

What’s in our probiotic blend

Nine ImmuBiome formulas deliver 3 billion CFU from the same eight strains: G-Tract, Immune, Breathe, Energy, Focus, Joint & Recovery, Spine & Nerve, Strength & Stamina and Lean Muscle.

  • Bifidobacterium bifidum and Bifidobacterium longum
  • Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus thermophilus
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus, bulgaricus, casei and plantarum

G-Tract and Immune add two yeasts, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii. G-Tract carries 25 billion CFU of live yeast.

Prebiotic supplements: where ours come from

Our prebiotics come mainly from mushrooms, whose fibers and polysaccharides hindgut bacteria readily ferment. In G-Tract and Immune that’s Turkey Tail and Lion’s Mane. Here’s the prebiotic amount in each formula:

  • 10,000 mg: Super Concentrate (Reishi) and Nerve Boost (Lion’s Mane)
  • 8,000 mg: Immune, Breathe, Energy, Spine & Nerve and Joint & Recovery
  • 7,000 mg: Focus
  • 6,500 mg: Strength & Stamina
  • 5,500 mg: G-Tract, which adds its live yeast on top
  • 750 mg: Lean Muscle, which leans on colostrum instead

When a probiotic helps most

Feed changes, hauling, competition, stall rest and medications can all upset the hindgut. Our formulas won’t stop those things happening, but they can support a balanced gut microbiome while they do.

How to feed it

  • Mix it into damp feed. Damp feed keeps the powder in the meal and may help more microbes make it through.
  • Start early. Begin a week or so before a known trip or show.
  • Store the tub well. Lid tight, out of a hot trailer tack room.
  • Don’t skimp on forage. The supplement goes on top of good hay, not instead of it.

If your horse has diarrhea that lasts more than a day, a fever, or seems dull and off feed, call your vet.

Our formulas built on this pairing

ImmuBiome G-Tract is our most complete probiotic formula: eight strains, two Saccharomyces yeasts, Turkey Tail and Lion’s Mane prebiotics and bovine colostrum. ImmuBiome Immune pairs the same probiotics with 8,000 mg of prebiotics and colostrum for gut and immune support together. The same base sits under Breathe, Joint & Recovery, Spine & Nerve and most of the line, so a horse on any of them gets daily gut support too.

Probiotic supplement questions

How do I choose a probiotic supplement for my horse?

Start with his main goal. For digestion, that’s G-Tract. For gut and immune support together, try Immune. If it’s joints, breathing or topline, the formula for that job already carries the same eight strains and prebiotics.

Should I feed probiotics all the time or only during busy or demanding times?

Consistent feeding works best for most horses, because added probiotics tend to pass through rather than stay for good. Many owners also start a little earlier before a planned trip or show.

Do probiotics survive the horse’s stomach?

Some don’t, which is why we use eight strains and print the CFU count on every tub. Feeding them mixed into damp feed, rather than on an empty stomach, may help more of them make it through.

Can I feed a probiotic while my horse is on antibiotics?

Ask your vet first. They can tell you whether to start now or wait, and how far apart to space the two.

Do probiotic supplements need to be kept in the fridge?

Follow the storage directions on your tub. In general, keep it sealed in a cool, dry place out of direct sun.
